Evaluating YouTube Monetization Checkers' Accuracy

In the past, users could easily check a YouTube channel's monetization status by examining the HTML source code for a specific string: "is_monetization_enabled". If this value was true, the channel was monetized. This method was straightforward but was changed by YouTube on November 17, 2023.

Now that this string has been removed from the source code, alternative methods are required to determine if a channel is monetized:

  • Looking at the channel's subscriber count
  • Seeing if the channel has a "Join" button
  • Reviewing the number of regular videos on the channel and checking how many are monetized versus not monetized

Despite these methods, our YouTube Monetization Checker may not always provide accurate results unless a channel's monetization status is clearly apparent.

Here are a few additional reasons why monetization checker results might be inaccurate or become unavailable:

Issue Consequence
YouTube alters the HTML structure or removes specific information. The tool can no longer locate the required data in the HTML.
The channel isn't monetized, but many of its videos are monetized by third parties (e.g., cover bands). The tool might incorrectly show that the channel is (probably) monetized.
The channel primarily uploads Shorts or very few regular videos. It is challenging to determine the monetization status of a channel based only on Shorts.

These are just some examples, and other unexpected events or modifications may also cause inaccurate results.
